Young female graduates often face a steep hurdle transitioning from STEM degrees into industry and supply chain roles. Bridging the gap between academic theory and industrial operations requires more than classroom learning, it demands direct exposure, structured mentorship, and hands-on experience.

To address this challenge, Afro-Tech Girls partnered with Nigerian Breweries to create a multi-phase Talent Pipeline Program, taking participants straight from virtual classrooms to the factory floor.

Over a 13-month journey across two cohorts, the program equipped young women with essential digital skills, professional presentation tools, and practical industrial exposure.

The Power of Opportunity: Cohorts 1 & 2 by the Numbers

Across both cohorts, the demand from young women seeking to break into technical sectors was staggering:

  • Over 4,400 Total Applications: Cohort 1 received 868 applications, while Cohort 2 saw overwhelming growth with over 3,600 applicants.

  • Over 200 Total Bootcamp Trainees: Selected candidates completed an intensive employability bootcamp and live brewery tour, mastering advanced Excel for data analytics, supply chain workflows, and core technical skills.

  • 40+ Internship Placements: The top 20 performers from each cohort advanced into full 12-month internships across various operational units at Nigerian Breweries.

  • 6 Full-Time Hires Retained: Highlighting the quality of talent built through the pipeline, 6 participants from Cohort 1 were retained as permanent, full-time staff.

Real Experience, Real Impact

For the young women stepping onto the plant floor, this initiative served as a launchpad for their careers.

In our Her Spotlight feature story, Every Journey Starts with a Yes, Chemical Engineering graduate and Cohort 1 beneficiary Victoria Nduka shared how her 12-month internship transformed her professional journey:

"The internship was my first real-world work experience, and I couldn't have asked for a better start... I was placed in a department that aligned with what I studied in school, which made everything feel more relevant and exciting. Afro-Tech Girls gave me that springboard, and I've been able to go further in my journey because of it."
