Having the right skills is one thing. Knowing how to communicate those skills to employers is another.

For many young women building careers in technology, a strong resume, professional LinkedIn profile, and well-presented portfolio can make the difference between having the right experience and being overlooked for an opportunity.

To help bridge that gap, Afro-Tech Girls launched Talent Hive, a targeted employability program designed to help young women better position themselves for the opportunities they were working toward.

From Technical Skills to Career Readiness

This Workshop brought together young women who had previously participated in Afro-Tech Girls' technology training programs.

Over four weeks, participants focused on strengthening the way they presented their skills, experience, and professional journey to potential employers.

The program focused on three key areas:

  • Resume Optimization: Participants received structured feedback and assessments to strengthen their resumes and better communicate their skills and experience.

  • LinkedIn Profiles: Participants worked on improving their professional profiles and positioning themselves more effectively online.

  • Digital Portfolios: Participants received guidance on presenting their projects, experience, and technical capabilities through stronger digital portfolios.

More Than a Resume

Talent Hive was designed around a simple idea: learning a technical skill is only part of building a career.

Young women also need the tools and confidence to communicate what they can do, showcase what they have built, and make their experience visible to the people creating opportunities.

Through structured feedback sessions and practical assessments, participants had the opportunity to look critically at how they were presenting themselves and identify areas for improvement.

Building Visibility for Opportunity

For the women who participated, Talent Hive provided a dedicated space to refine their professional presence and prepare for the next stage of their careers.

The program extended the work of Afro-Tech Girls' technical training programs beyond skills acquisition, helping participants connect what they had learned with the practical realities of navigating the job market.

Because getting the opportunity isn't just about having the skills. It's also about being able to show what you can do.
