Data is one of the most powerful tools for driving strategic decisions and impact.

Through our partnership with IHS Nigeria, Afro-Tech Girls launched Cohort 1 (2023) of the Data Visualization Training, a structured 6-week online journey designed to give young women the skills, tools, and confidence to thrive in the world of data analytics.

Because sometimes, having the right tech skills can change the entire trajectory of a career.

Over six fast-paced weeks, our participants plunged headfirst into data analytics using Tableau, mastering STEM skills, and participating in job readiness sessions to prepare them for the tech industry. They worked through hands-on exercises, tackled tough assignments, received close mentorship, and capped it all off with a final capstone project centered on real-world social impact data.

Here is a look at Cohort 1 by the numbers:

  • 359 Applicants Enrolled: The sheer volume of applications showed us just how hungry young women are for accessible, high-impact data skills.

  • 20–55 Active Participants Per Session: From live workshops to interactive mentorship calls, our cohort showed up, asked the right questions, and pushed their limits.

  • 13 Capstone Graduates: 13 dedicated participants saw the program through to the very end, submitting capstone projects that transformed complex social datasets into clear, actionable visual stories.

Data skills are no longer just "nice to have". They are essential for solving real-world problems. Programs like this exist to ensure women aren't left out of the conversation.
