We have put together some online resources to ensure learning continues during this critical period.
- CS First
CS First is a free computer science curriculum that teaches students how to code using scratch based technology. It has curated activities that make coding easy to teach and fun to learn.
It is available for students ages 9 to 16. It also provides teachers with the tools and resources to teach computer science at no cost
- Applied CS Skills
Applied CS Skills is a free online course by Google designed to prepare you for your CS career through hands on coding experience.
This is recommended for students in higher education. At the end of the course, students can learn how to build android games
- Applied Digital Skills
This curriculum teaches digital skills needed to succeed in the classroom and on the job, from researching to analysing data.
It includes over 100 free courses available for middle & high school learners and adults such as writing a business plan, creating a resume, planning a project etc. The ready-to-use video lessons teach digital skills that have immediate, real-life application. It is highly recommended for personal development.
- Google Digital Skills for Africa
This consists of a range of free learning content designed to help grow your business or jumpstart your career.
With 126 courses available in three categories; Data and Tech, Digital Marketing and career development, it is recommended for students in higher education and working professionals. You can select individual modules or an entire course end-to-end and learn at your own pace.
- Khan Academy
Khan Academy provides free online lessons and practice in maths, sciences, computing, arts and humanities and more. It also provides test preparation for SAT, GMAT and the likes as well as free tools for parents and teachers to track student progress.
They also have the Khan Academy Kids curriculum for children ages 2 to 7.
It is available in 40+ languages, and aligned to national curriculum for over 10 countries.
CK-12 caters to students of all ages. CK-12 Foundation provides a library of free online textbooks, videos, exercises, flashcards, and real world applications for over 5000 concepts from arithmetic to sciences etc.
Students can brush up on their math, science, and reading skills with online reading passages, videos, and optional review questions that are graded at the end.
- YouTube learning
YouTube learning is a huge repository of educational videos and learning channels. It is a resource for families with children of different ages & areas of interest.
- Alison Online courses from experts.
Alison has over 1,000 high quality courses available across 9 distinct categories. The courses are free to complete and self-paced.
Depending on your learning goal, you can choose from Certificate courses which provides specific expertise in your field or industry, Diploma courses which are designed to give a more extensive understanding of a subject area or Learning Paths which are a combination of niche courses that have been specially designed by experts, to help broaden your skill set, progress your knowledge or master a subject.
It is recommended for students in higher education and working professionals.
Coursera is an American online learning platform that offers open online courses (MOOC), specializations, and degrees in a variety of subjects, such as engineering, data science, machine learning, mathematics, business, computer science, digital marketing, humanities, medicine, social sciences and others.
Online courses are taught by instructors from well-recognized universities and companies and available for people age 13 and above.
- Future Learn
FutureLearn offers short online courses for free to help learners study, build professional skills and connect with experts.
Anyone 13 years or older can study on FutureLearn and don't need formal qualifications.
-Microsoft Virtual Academy
Microsoft virtual academy is one of Microsoft’s youth programmes that provide free business and IT training to build your skills and advance your career.
Early STEMer provides coding, web design, robotics and more STEM courses online. The courses are self paced. This learning tools provides the opportunity to work on and submit projects that will be graded. It also provides live one-on-one tutoring sessions when students need help.
